The International Capital Markets Association ( ICMA ) is an international industry association for capital market participants based in Zurich . The focus of membership is on European banks and financial service providers.

history

The ICMA was created in July 2005 through the merger of the International Primary Market Association and the International Securities Market Association (ISMA). ISMA itself was the former Association of International Bond Dealers (AIBD), founded in 1969.

Interest calculation method

The association became known primarily for the interest method it developed . This AIBD method (also known as the ISMA method or ICMA method due to the renaming) is now standard in many financial mathematical applications.

Self-regulation

An essential task of the organization is the self-regulation of the capital market business. The ICMA develops rules, standards and codes of conduct for commercial transactions. These standards form the basis of global stock exchange transactions and support banking supervision .
