International Society for Military and Martial Law

The goal of the International Society for military and martial law ( english International Society for Military Law and the Law of War ) is the analysis and dissemination of military law and international humanitarian law. To this end, the company regularly organizes various events such as seminars, expert meetings and congresses. The company is an international, non-profit organization under Belgian law that was founded in 1988 and is based in Brussels. With this re-establishment, the predecessor organization of the same name, which was founded in Strasbourg in 1956, was replaced.

The society has almost 750 members from numerous countries. The members mostly have an academic or professional background. Among them are professors, judges, civil servants, lawyers and military officials. The society forms the umbrella company of currently 21 national defense law societies, such as the German Society for Defense Law and Humanitarian Law eV and the Belgian Defense Law Society. Since 1997 the company has had advisory status at the United Nations.

Publications

The company publishes three types of publications: the magazine for military law and military law ( English the Military Law and the Law of War Review ), the congress proceedings of the International Society for military and martial law ( English Recueils of the International Society for Military Law ) and the report on current news ( English the Society's News Flash ) of the society.

Journal of Military Law and Martial Law

The Journal of Military Law and Martial Law is a legal journal that appears four times a year. The journal deals with topics of interest to military advisers and academics in the field of international humanitarian law. The magazine contains articles in English, Dutch, French and German and is edited by the Belgian Society for Military Law and Martial Law and supported by the Belgian Ministry of Defense.

Congress reports

The congress reports ("Recueils") contain the course and the discussed topics of the congresses of the society, which take place every three years.

News Flash

Current international news and developments in the field of international humanitarian law are presented and discussed in the News Flash. It is published several times a year, mainly during the summer.
