International preparatory class

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

International preparatory classes ( IVK ) are classes for students from abroad who are attending a school in Hamburg for the first time and whose knowledge of the German language is insufficient for attending a regular class. Children and young people who are not yet literate in the Latin alphabet first attend a basic class.

There are preparatory classes with different focuses:

  • Basic classes in primary and secondary education for literacy
  • International preparatory classes (IVK) for grades 3 to 9
  • International preparatory classes ESA (two-year preparation for the first school leaving certificate) and MSA (one and two-year preparation for the middle school leaving certificate)

The focus is on learning the German language.
