International Social Science Council

The ISSC (International Social Science Council, German: Internationaler Rat für Sozialwissenschaften ) was an international umbrella organization of socio-behavioral science societies based in Paris until 2018 .

It was founded in 1952 on the basis of a resolution of the VI. UNESCO General Assembly founded in 1951 and has been supported by UNESCO since then.

The association is based in Paris .

In 1972 it was transformed into the current umbrella organization of international professional societies, and since 1992 national and regional scientific organizations active in the field of social sciences have also been members. In July 2018, the merger with the more science-oriented International Science Council (ICSU) took place to form the International Science Council (ISC).

  • Development of interdisciplinary cooperation between the social sciences;
  • Promotion of interdisciplinary work between the social, human and other sciences;
  • Using social science knowledge for public policy and local needs to improve the quality of people's lives
  • Promotion of the social skills of the citizens.
