In December 2000, has UN to December 18 as the International Day of Migrants proclaimed.

On December 18, 1990, the International Convention for the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families was adopted by the UN General Assembly. It is the primary international standard by which governments should measure their national legal protections.

In December 2000 the UN proclaimed the first International Migrants Day.

On December 10, 2018, the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration , developed under the leadership of the United Nations General Assembly, was adopted by 164 states.
