The International Commodity Classification for Foreign Trade and Standard International Trade Classification ( SITC ) is a statistic - classification used for the classification of goods in the context of, foreign trade statistics is used and by the United Nations was developed.

SITC is closely related to the so-called Harmonized System for Describing and Coding Goods (HS) and the Combined Nomenclature (CN). The aim of these systems is to make trade statistics internationally comparable. Among other things, they are used to uniformly measure the flow of goods between countries (foreign trade). At the same time, however, the customs authorities also use these systems to assign goods to specific groups and tariffs. The HS nomenclature is the basis of the EU customs tariff . However, the respective HS position can be derived from the SITC Rev. 3 version.
