Ante mortem

The term ante mortem ( Latin for "before death") is often used in criminology and forensic medicine . It describes, for example, injuries that were inflicted on the victim before his death, but which are to be considered separately from the injuries leading to death. The opposite is post mortem .

In medicine, intra vitam (during life) is also used.
