In medicine, the inversio vaginae is an acute protrusion of the vagina . In rare cases, this occurs as a complication during childbirth , usually in connection with a simultaneous protrusion of the uterus ( inversio uteri ). In veterinary medicine, on the other hand, the term is used for mild forms of vaginal prolapse, in which the vagina invades into its lumen without protruding from the vulva.

A common cause is the lack of intervention during the postpartum period .
