history
The company was founded as a Leasing Company in Johannesburg in 1974 and received its banking license in 1980 . The share has been listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in South Africa since 1986. In 1998 the group acquired Guinness Mahon, one of London's leading commercial banks. The deal also included the acquisition of Henderson Crosthwaite, a stockbrokerage company.
In July 2002 the company became a dual-listed company with listings in London and Johannesburg.
