Irssi is a free command line based IRC client . In addition to the IRC protocol, SILC , ICB and XMPP / Jabber are also supported with the help of plugins . Irssi is licensed under the GPL and runs on Unix and Unix systems , Windows and macOS .
In contrast to most other IRC clients, it does not use a graphical user interface . Since a large part of the source code is independent of the character-based user interface , there are also graphical frontends such as Irssix and MacIrssi for Mac OS X. Irssi has a pearl-based scripting engine that enables the core functionality to be expanded.
Using the FiSH or OTR plug-in , it is possible to encrypt communication on IRC .
