Isaak Moissejewitsch Rabinowitsch (engineer)
Isaak Moiseevich Rabinovich , Russian Исаак Моисе́евич Рабинович , English transcription Isaac Moiseevich Rabinovich, (born January 23, 1886 in Mogiljow ; † April 28, 1977 in Moscow ) was a Soviet civil engineer.
biography
After graduating from school in 1904, he studied at the Imperial Technical University in Moscow, but was expelled from the university in 1911 because of revolutionary activities. Further studies were generally prohibited and he was exiled to Olonetz . He was only able to finish his studies in 1918 after the October Revolution. From 1918 to 1932 he was at the scientific and experimental institute for road construction. From 1932 he was professor of structural engineering at the Engineering Academy of the Soviet Army and from 1933 to 1955 he held the chair of structural engineering at the Moscow University of Civil Engineering. In 1943 he became major general of engineers. When he retired from the military in 1966, he became a hero of socialist labor .
He developed a kinematic method in structural engineering and efficient methods for the calculation of complex statically indeterminate systems, developed a theory of suspension cables for suspension bridges and the dynamics of the loading of bridges and other supporting structures. He was also known from textbooks on structural engineering.
In 1946 he became a corresponding member of the Soviet Academy of Sciences . In 1944 he became an Honored Scientist of Russia and received the Order of Lenin .
