Iskut

Iskut is a Tahltan settlement in British Columbia , Canada . It is located on Highway 37 at the north end of Eddontenajon Lake .

Most of the approximately 300 residents belong to the Iskut First Nation. These are part of the Tahltan Nation, which form the second branch of this tribe as the Tahtlan First Nation in the Stikine River area around Dease Lake and Telegraph Creek . The Eddontenajon settlement near Iskut was abandoned.

Economy and Transport

In addition to tourism, mining, logging and hunting are important, and the manufacture of suede products is well known beyond the region.

Highway 37 provides access to the Yellowhead Highway (406 kilometers south) and Highway 97 - the Alaska Highway (315 km north). The Kluachon Center has a gas station, motel, supermarket and public telephone.

About one kilometer north is the Eddontenajon Airstrip at an altitude of 945 meters. Scheduled air traffic is currently not operated.
