IsoBuster (from the English Iso for the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which has adopted the ISO 9660 standard for ISO images , and Buster for "Knacker" / " Cracker ") from the company "Smart Projects" is a shareware - Windows - application that enables data from damaged disks can be recovered.

IsoBuster can read many CD and DVD formats and restore files, at least partially. Combinations of several damaged copies can even make a complete recovery of the memory image possible. The degree of restoration is highly dependent on the extent of damage and soiling. The program can often also be used to read data carriers that Windows cannot recognize. The program can also create bootable ISO images and extract many image file formats , even if they were created with a different operating system .

Managed IBQ / IBP images

Since version 1.9 (July 2006) of IsoBuster, managed images of all possible data storage media can be created easily. This function is available even if you have not acquired a Personal / Pro license for IsoBuster.

The function of the managed IBQ / IBP images proves to be useful, as it can be used to create images of data storage media which contain the exact file system including the order of defragmentation and all partitions of the data storage medium. Accordingly, lost data can also be restored from such images without having to rely on the original storage medium during the restoration.

Such images are very useful in everyday data recovery, as they contain everything exactly as it is in the data storage device, including attribute information and the position of the file on the storage medium.

Such images can also be used for comparison with the original medium.

The creation of a managed IBQ / IBP image can be canceled at any time and continued at will. If individual sectors were left out when the image was created due to reading errors in the medium, they can be added at any time.

Everyday example

With IBQ and IBP images, scratched disks can be easily rescued, as disk drives close each other's gaps in the image.

If one drive is able to create an incomplete image, another disk drive can read other parts of the disk better, which the first drive cannot read well.

The drives complement each other and can use IsoBuster to create the most complete image possible of the data storage medium.
