The Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Storici (IISS) is a non-university institute for historical studies based in Naples .

The institute was founded in 1946 by Benedetto Croce . It is still located in Palazzo Filomarino, the former residence of Croce in the historic center of Naples. The institute is affiliated with the extensive library owned by Croces.

According to its founder, the aim of the institute is to promote historical studies in a comprehensive sense, particularly in relation to philosophy, ethics, law and politics. The institute regularly awards grants to young scientists and organizes seminars and conferences. There are also various publications, including a separate series of monographs (61 volumes from 1950 to 2011) and a yearbook under the title Annali dell'Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Storici since 1967.
