The Italie is a motor ship powered by paddle wheels on Lake Geneva , which was built in 1908 by the Sulzer brothers in Winterthur as a paddle wheel steamer . The ship is characterized by a 1st class salon in the Empire style , which has been preserved in its original state. With a length of 66 meters and a width of 14 meters, it currently has a capacity of 560 people. The ship, which is named after the state of Italy , was converted to diesel-electric propulsion between 1955 and 1958 and was last extensively overhauled in 2015 and 2016.

It is the second ship to be named Italie on Lake Geneva. In 1854 Chevalier delivered the paddle steamer Ville-de-Nyon in Lyon to the Société de Bateaux sur le Lac Léman, after the liquidation of this company it was renamed Italie in 1856 by the Compagnie des Chemins de Fer de la Ligne d'Italie and in 1875 canceled.

The paddle boat is one of eight paddle wheelers from the Compagnie Générale de Navigation sur le Lac Léman (CGN), which received the Europa Nostra Prize of the European Union for European cultural heritage in 2014 for the exemplary preservation of the Belle Époque steamship fleet. These eight paddle steamers still have a significant impact on passenger shipping on the entire Lake Geneva area.
