The Europa Nostra Prize is a European award that recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of cultural heritage conservation every year. The carrier is the Europa Nostra organization based in The Hague . The prize has been awarded since 1978. Since 2000 it has been combined with the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage , which the European Union established as part of the KULTUR2000 program .

Awards are advertised in different categories. Up to six Grand Prizes are endowed with 10,000 euros each and are awarded for the following subject areas:

  • Preservation of buildings, cultural landscapes, collections of works of art or preservation of archaeological sites
  • Outstanding studies and scientific work
  • Outstanding achievements by individuals, groups and organizations
  • Education, teaching, training and awareness raising
  • Dedicated services of a group or individual in the field of cultural heritage

In addition to the grand prizes , medals (2nd prize) and diplomas (3rd prize) are awarded.

Small as well as large initiatives, which can be local, national or international, can apply. The studies and projects must have been completed in the last three years. Applications are submitted to the Europa Nostra International office, The Hague, in English or French.
