The Simplon is a paddle wheel steamer on Lake Geneva . It has been a listed building since 2011.
history
The Simplon - the third ship on Lake Geneva to bear this name - was commissioned by the Compagnie Générale de Navigation sur le Lac Léman (CGN) from the manufacturer Sulzer AG in Winterthur in 1913 and built there from 1914 to 1919. The steam engine is from 1915. As a result of the First World War , the ship was not put into operation until 1920. The interior is kept in the typical classicism style.
In the course of its long life, the ship has been renovated several times. In 1924 the Simplon was expanded for night operations. In 1928 the first class was renewed and the upper deck roof was clad with metal. In 1932, front windows were installed on the upper deck. In 1938 the paneling and furniture were renewed. In 1959 the Simplon was the first ship on Lake Geneva to have a diesel furnace for its steam boiler . In 1963 the upper deck was modernized and the access stairs replaced.
In 2011 the Simplon was listed as a historical monument by the canton of Vaud .
