Europa Nostra
Europa Nostra is a European monument protection association founded in 1963 and based in The Hague . He represents the interests of more than 400 non-governmental organizations and private individuals from 45 countries vis-à-vis the European Union , the Council of Europe and UNESCO . The president is Plácido Domingo .
tasks
Europa Nostra advocates favorable framework conditions for monument protection. It sees itself as an independent discussion platform for experts and interested parties who want to work for the protection and preservation of the European cultural heritage. The association emphasizes the importance of monument protection for upbringing and education, for quality of life and for the creation and development of jobs.
Europa Nostra Germany is the national representation of Europa Nostra based in Bonn.
The European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of cultural heritage conservation every year.
Awards are given in four categories:
- Preservation of buildings, cultural landscapes, works of art or archaeological sites
- Studies and scientific papers
- Outstanding achievements by individuals, groups and organizations
- Education, teaching, training and awareness raising
Small as well as large initiatives, which can be local, national or international, can apply. The studies and projects must have been completed in the last three years. Applications are submitted to the Europa Nostra International office, The Hague, in English or French.
