Hans Jaksch
Hans Jaksch (born October 29, 1879 in Hennersdorf , Northern Bohemia ; † January 7, 1970 in Vienna ) was an Austrian architect .
Life
Hans Jaksch was the son of a farmer and tailor. He came from a modest background. He studied at the Technical University in Vienna and at the Academy of Fine Arts with Friedrich Ohmann . For a short time he was an employee of Max Ferstel . From 1907 to 1961, together with Siegfried Theiss , he led the Viennese architecture firm Theiss & Jaksch , which was successful in the First Republic as well as in the corporate state , in the Nazi period and in the reconstruction after 1945. The Herrengasse skyscraper in Vienna's 1st district and the Reichsbrücke were among the most prestigious construction contracts that could be awarded in Austria.
In 1938 Jaksch, as President of the Central Association of Architects in Austria, called for a “YES” in the referendum . Theiss and Jaksch, who both joined the NSDAP , continued their careers uninterrupted in 1938, now a focus of their activities was the conversion of Aryanized villas into Nazi homes.
After 1945 the tried and tested studio community was also active in the reconstruction of destroyed industrial plants.
He was buried at the Grinzing cemetery .
