Site plan with description

The Dr.-Karl-Renner-Hof , previously a residential complex on the Flugfeld , is the first communal residential complex in the Republic of Austria and was named after the founder of the republic, Karl Renner . The municipal housing is in Wiener Neustadt in the Flugfeld district on the Flugfeldgürtel.

The extensive residential complex was designed by the architects Siegfried Theiss and Hans Jaksch in 1915 and 1916 for workers in the armaments industry and built from 1918 to 1922. The latest findings from social housing were used, such as large windows, semi-open construction and infrastructure with shop fronts in Wielandgasse and Matthias-Schönerer-Gasse. The three-storey residential buildings are kept simple and partly decorated with Art Deco elements, a facade decoration that was partly reduced after 1945. The Wielandgasse was aligned with the portal of the air barracks .
