Water tower

The Wiener Neustädter water tower is located in Wiener Neustadt on Südtiroler Platz.

The water tower is a landmark of the city that can be seen from afar , is also an important industrial monument and was formerly part of the Kaiser-Franz-Josephs-Wasserleitung.

In the years 1902 to 1903 an application and approval for a municipal deep spring water pipeline was made, which was built from 1909 by the company C. Korte and Co. On behalf of this company, the necessary water tower was built from 1909 to 1910 by the builder Anton Koblischek according to the plans of the architects Siegfried Theiss and Hans Jaksch . The water tower was put into operation on December 13, 1910.

The tower tapers upwards over a round base. The tower shaft is structured with pilaster strips and partially windowed. A console wreath carries the polygonal container housing, which is covered by a steep, mansard-like bent tent roof.

The water tower was partially destroyed in World War II and restored from 1950 to 1951, with the windows being changed.

The water tower is still part of the water supply, but no longer serves as a storage tank, but as a control tank from which the well pumps are switched on and off. In the event of a power failure, the water tower can temporarily ensure the supply due to the height of the reservoir.
