The item Industrietechnik GmbH (proper spelling item) is a German company headquartered in Solingen ( Nordrhein-Westfalen ) and a leading global developer and supplier of the MB system module for industrial applications in the fields of mechanical engineering , workstations and material procurement. The construction kit is based on aluminum profiles, a matching connection technology and various functional elements.

history

Item Industrietechnik und Maschinenbau GmbH was founded in Solingen in 1976 as a design office and manufacturer of special machines . Due to the growing need for special solutions for industry, the focus shifted to special machine construction, initially in the areas of assembly and grinding technology, later increasingly for assembly and testing technology as well as the linking of production and manual workplaces.

From the idea of providing finished units from which individual machines or equipment could be manufactured flexibly, in a time- and cost-saving manner, the company developed the steel modular design for special machine construction. First, machine frames were designed in a compact container shape, which enabled both the integration of functional modules and the necessary protective devices.

In order to reduce the high expenditure of mechanical operations , especially in the area of connection technology, item developed a modular profile system in the early 1980s and combined it with a new connection technology. In 1984 the modular system, consisting of aluminum profiles, connection technology and functional elements, was launched on the market. In order to achieve a clear separation between special machine construction and sales and development of the MB modular system, special machine construction was relocated to its own business premises in the early 1990s.

Item has also been offering complete workstation systems since the very beginning. In 2010 it became an independent product area. The workstation systems cover the areas of production lines, production islands and individual workstations. In 2010 the MB modular system was also supplemented by the D30 series, which is compatible with the MB system. This pipe system was developed to meet the steadily growing requirements in the area of "Lean Production".

The addition of the automation and software solutions product areas complete the item portfolio. item offers automation solutions through ready-to-install complete systems as well as a wide range of drive and guidance technologies for individual process automation. Item supports its customers with digital construction with the software solution for all aspects of the modular system.

The item parent company is located in Solingen Aufderhöhe. In addition, the European headquarters, which went into operation in 2016, is located in Solingen. The new facility on the 67,000 m² property bundles the two important business areas of wholesale and retail under one roof. item also has locations throughout Germany, for example in Berlin, Freiburg, Hamburg, Hanover, Ludwigsburg, Mannheim, Mühlhausen, Nossen and Ulm.

item is also active beyond the borders of Germany and has numerous locations in Europe and internationally. In 1997, the founding of the subsidiary item America, LLC laid the foundation for corporate globalization. Item had founded its first European subsidiary in Italy back in 1992; item Switzerland followed in 2002 and item Poland in 2005. Item has also been represented on the Asian continent with its own branch in China since 2011.
