Coryphantha guerkeana is a species of plant in the genus Coryphantha from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet guerkeana honors the German botanist Robert Louis August Maximilian Gürke .

description

Coryphantha guerkeana usually grows individually with spherical, blue-green shoots with wool at the apex , which reach a diameter of 6 to 8 centimeters. The warts , up to 15 millimeters long, are inconspicuous. The woolly axils each have a large red nectar gland . The two to four gray central spines are protruding and slightly curved towards their tip. The seven to twelve radial spines, also gray, are spreading and up to 1.5 centimeters long.

The flowers are colored yellow.

Distribution and systematics

Coryphantha guerkeana is common in the Mexican state of Durango .

The first description as Mammillaria gurkeana by Friedrich Bödeker was published in 1914. Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose put the species in 1923 in the genus Coryphantha . Reto F. Dicht and Adrian D. Lüthy treated Coryphantha guerkeana in 2001 as a synonym of Coryphantha ottonis .
