Ivan Totew , also written Ivan Totev, (born October 18, 1975 in Plovdiv ) is a Bulgarian politician of the GERB party (Bulgarian: ГЕРБ). He has been Lord Mayor of Plovdiv since November 7, 2011.

Career

Totew graduated from high school for automotive engineering "Goze Deltschew" in Plovdiv. He later completed a degree in "Computer Systems and Technologies" at the Technical University in the capital Sofia . In May 2010 he received his master's degree in “Public Administration” from the Faculty of Plovdiv University. As a topic for his master's thesis, he chose “Regional Policy of Security and Stability in the European Union. Black Sea Synergy - a new European Union initiative in the Black Sea region ”.

Ivan Totew is married and has one child.

Professional career

Totew's professional career began in 1997 as a specialist in "design, layout and prepress" in a publishing house. From 2001 to 2004 he worked as a project manager in a software company. From 2004 to 2007 he was the director responsible for technical problems at a hotel company.

Political career

Ivan Totew has been a member of the “Citizens for a European Development of Bulgaria” since September 2006 and in October of the same year he took over the management of the association in Plovdiv. He is one of the founding members of the party at the GERB Congress from 2006 and a member of the city tour of the GERB-Plovdiv section. From March 2007 he acted as organizational secretary of GERB. Since November 2008 Totew has been the coordinator of the GERB-Plovdiv city. At the Third Congress of GERB, which took place on January 10, 2010 in Sofia, he was elected to the Executive Committee of GERB.

In November 2007 he won the majority election for the mayor of the Eastern Region in Plovdiv. With the decision of the Council of Ministers in November 2009, he was elected as a member of the Council of Government. In October 2009 he became representative of the South Region in Bulgaria and was responsible for the “Regional Development” program. He was later nominated as a candidate by GERB and won the election for mayor of the city of Plovdiv and took office on November 7, 2011.
