Numerous Jewish migrants came to Brazil in several waves of immigration. Most came between 1926 and 1942. There are currently around 120,000 Jews living in Brazil. In 1912, emigrants from Bessarabia founded the Kehilat Israel Synagogue , in which the museum opened in 2016. It is the first migration museum in Brazil and aims to preserve, convey and promote the history, customs, art and culture of the immigrant Jews through exhibitions as well as social and educational activities. A Holocaust memorial was set up on the third floor in 2017.
