JASP is a computer program for analyzing data and performing statistical tests .

Range of functions

JASP contains some functions for descriptive statistics and their graphical representation as well as some regression analyzes (linear regression, log-linear regression, logistic and hierarchical regression). The focus is on the implementation of statistical tests (e.g. t-test , ANOVA , ANCOVA ). Methods for factor and principal component analysis as well as structural equation models are also available.

A special feature can be that most of the functions are available in a second form, based on Bayesian statistics , in addition to the usual ("frequentistic") form . The range of functions can be expanded using modules.

JASP can read data from text files (as comma-separated values ), from spreadsheets (in OpenDocument format ) and as SPSS binary data files (file extension SAV).

service

The operation is completely menu-driven. The user interface is only available in English. Although functions of the R programming language are used in the background , the JASP user interface is completely independent of R. In contrast to other statistics programs, the results screen is split vertically and the analysis results are updated in real time when the input data changes.

development

The core development team includes a group led by Maarten Marsmann and Professor Eric-Jan Wagenmakers at the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Amsterdam . According to the developers, the abbreviation JASP stands for "Jeffreys's Amazing Statistics Program" (in honor of the English statistician Harold Jeffreys ).

Former members of the JASP development team started to develop a derivative under the name Jamovi .

License

JASP is offered under the GNU Affero General Public License , a very permissive open source license.
