JEATH War Museum

The JEATH War Museum ( English JEATH War Museum ; Thai พิพิธภัณฑ์ อักษะ เชลยศึก ) is a museum in the city of Kanchanaburi in central Thailand .

The museum is located within Wat Chai Chumphon , about three kilometers south of the bridge over the Khwae Yai , and serves to depict the conditions in this area during the Second World War when the Japanese troops occupied Thailand and a rail link through the country to Burma had built, the so-called Death Railway . POWs from various nations were used in the construction, many of whom were killed.

In the museum you can see three replicas of bamboo huts used as accommodation for the prisoners. Numerous objects from life in the camps and from the construction site are on display in the huts, including paintings and photographs.

JEATH stands for J apan, E ngland, A ustralia / A merica, T hailand and H olland, which provided or had to provide the majority of the workforce. The museum opened in 1977.

The museum is open daily between 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
