The JOIDES Basin is a lake basin with northeast extension in the Antarctic Ross Sea north of the Ross Ice Shelf and west of the Victoria Land .

The namesake of the Advisory Committee for Undersea features recognized (ACUF) in June 1988 designation is the acronym of the research program J oint O ceanographic I nstitutions for D eep E arth S ampling (loosely translated United Oceanographic Institute for deep drilling ) on which the United States , Great Britain , Germany , France , Japan and Canada are involved.
