St. Hubertus hunting lodge

The Jachthuis Sint Hubertus or Jachtslot Sint Hubertus ( German  Jagdhaus St. Hubertus or Jagdschloss St. Hubertus ) is located in the north of the Hoge Veluwe National Park , between the towns of Otterlo and Hoenderloo , in the area of the municipality of Ede , in the Dutch province of Gelderland .

The wealthy Kröller-Müller couple had already bought a large amount of land in the Hoge Veluwe area since 1909 . The passionate hunter used the 6,000 hectare property as a hunting ground, using an old farm as accommodation. The Kröller-Müllers commissioned the architect Hendrik Petrus Berlage for a more representative residence, where business friends, diplomats and artists were expected as guests . He was given a free hand in the design, so that he could develop a completely independent work. The design submitted in 1914 was implemented by 1920. The entire building is built with bricks, some of which are glazed. Berlage not only designed the building, but also the entire interior. Tiles, lamps and furniture: everything was coordinated.

In the center of the building is the towering observation tower. From here, the surrounding forest and heather landscape can be viewed as if from an oversized high seat . The name St. Hubertus is derived from the patron saint of hunters, St. Hubertus , who is depicted in one of the house's glass windows. The shape of the building's floor plan is inspired by deer antlers.

The hunting lodge, like the entire Hoge Veluwe, was brought into a foundation by the Kröller-Müller couple and is now open to the public. It was declared a Rijksmonument . Occasionally, St. Hubertus is also used by the Dutch government as a guest house or for conferences. In 1946 the talks on Indonesia's independence took place here.
