Jafa is a slang term for the people of Auckland . Originally intended as an offense to residents, it is an abbreviation for Just Another Fucking Aucklander ( just another fucking Aucklander, for example ). Some Aucklanders now use it as a humorous name.

development

Originally the word was used by New Zealanders who did not live in Auckland. The dominance of the Aucklanders, who make up about a third of the country's population, was probably the reason for the origin of the word. Great successes at the National Provincial Championships in rugby union could also be a cause for the origin of the word. In 1999 the city took over to promote tourism. The campaign was endowed with 900,000 New Zealand dollars and the abbreviation was reinterpreted as Just amazing fun-filled Auckland (for example, just great fun-filled Auckland ). After that, the city's residents began to use the word ironically. In the meantime, however, the word has entered the vocabulary without any irony and stands for the people of Auckland. The now positive connection to the word partly leads to the reinterpretation to Just Another Friendly Aucklander ( Just Another Friendly Aucklander ). In 2004 a bicycle taxi company in town called itself Jafacabs . A television program from university students is called Jafa TV . The word can also be found today on traffic signs, where it prompts you to drive carefully. Just Another Fatal Accident . ( Just another bad accident )
