The memorial commemorates three hunts that the Swedish King Charles XV. in 1864, 1866 and 1868 on Öland , which has a special tradition as a royal hunting ground. Between 1569 and 1801 the entire island was a royal hunting ground, which also meant considerable cuts for the population. Even after 1801, the tradition of royal hunts remained on the island.

The complex consists of a pile of stones on the top of which is a large upright limestone . Both the cairn and the limestone are reminiscent of the prehistoric tombs often found on Öland. On the limestone it says in Swedish : In memory of King Charles XV. this stone was erected by the royal hunting club and the people of Öland.

The monument is an example of the Gothic idea and the longing that people expressed at the time for a glamorous past.
