Jaime Caruana
Jaime Caruana (* 14. March 1952 in Valencia ) is the General Manager of the Bank for International Settlements (English. Bank for International Settlements ). His five-year term began on April 1, 2009; his predecessor was Malcolm Knight .
From July 21, 2000 to July 2006 he was governor (= chairman) of the Bank of Spain . His successor was Miguel Ángel Fernández Ordóñez .
Life
Caruana graduated from UPM ( Polytechnic University of Madrid ) in 1974 with a degree in communications engineering .
In May 2003 he became chairman of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. Caruana took over the Basel II project at a difficult time. He won respect and praise from both parties involved (regulators and banks); the revised agreement was completed in June 2004. In August 2006, Caruana was appointed Financial Counselor to the Managing Director and Director of the Monetary and Capital Markets Department by the then IMF boss Rodrigo de Rato .
During his six-year tenure as Governor of the Bank of Spain, he was also a member of the six -member Executive Board in this capacity .
He then became a member of the influential Group of Thirty .
