James L. Connaughton

James Laurence Connaughton (born May 1961) is a retired American government official.

As chairman of the Council on Environmental Quality, which is part of the Executive Office , he was the senior environmental advisor to US President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009 . At his suggestion, he was unanimously approved by the United States Senate in June 2001 and then installed in office by the President. With the end of Bush's tenure in January 2009, Connaughton also left the government; he was succeeded by Nancy Sutley . He himself switched to the management of the Constellation Energy Group .
