The Jamtland Republicans are a Swedish American football team from Östersund . The team colors blue, white and green are derived from the colors of the Republic of Jämtland .

history

The club was founded in 1988 by Peter Narup and some of his friends, who discovered the sport for himself in the eighties through a student exchange at an American high school . For the first time in the league game operation, the Republicans got in 1990. In the following years they commuted around in the lower classes before they succeeded in advancing to the top Swedish super series in 2000 . But after a year it went back to the second class. In 2003, they were promoted again and the Republicans stayed in the super series until 2006, curiously without ever having won a rated game. Due to financial problems, the team voluntarily withdrew from the super series during the 2007 season. In 2008 the Republicans won Division II Northern Group unbeaten and are thus back in Division I in 2009.

More teams

At the moment, in addition to the men's team, there is also a U-19 team taking part in the game, which won the Swedish championship in 2008. In 2001 the Republicans' U-16s won this award.

useful information

  • The Jamtland Republicans have never won a game in the four seasons in which they competed in the Super Series that would have entered the ranking. The Republicans have won a total of two games, including their very first game in the Super Series, in 2001 against the Uppsala 86'ers 48-0, and in 2005 against the Sundsvall Flames 62:25, but the respective opponents dragged themselves out during the season from the game and the results were deleted from the official result lists.
  • The Jamtland Republicans have been holding an indoor tournament for student teams from local schools since 2000. With this measure, the club manages to inspire new young people for the sport again and again.
