The Japanese Embassy in Washington, DC , is the diplomatic mission of Japan and the United States of America . It is located on Embassy Row in Washington, DC and is dedicated to maintaining diplomatic relations between Japan and the United States .

The building was designed by Delano and Aldrich in the late New Georgian Art Nouveau with Asian elements and, unlike many of the older buildings on Embassy Row, was intended as an embassy building from the start. It has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973 . In 1960, in the well-known Japanese garden of the embassy, an old tea house by Nahiko Emori , which originally stood in Japan, was dismantled for the 100th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship, shipped to the USA and reassembled there.

The area is particularly popular as an excursion destination during the cherry blossom season , which is also important for all of Washington, DC. The trees on the embassy grounds are particularly impressive.
