Jay Denham

Jay Denham is a techno DJ from Kalamazoo (US state Michigan) who is one of the most important artists of Detroit techno with a variety of style-defining publications .

Denham, who played bass in various punk bands in the 1970s, moved to Detroit in the mid-1980s to study at Michigan State University . There he met Anthony Shakir , through whom he later met Derrick May . May encourages Denham to move completely to Detroit.

In 1990, the collaboration with Shakir and May resulted in the In Sync EP , which Denham released on Frictional under the pseudonym Vice .

In 1992 Denham moved back to Kalamazoo to start his own label Black Nation . His debut album Escape To The Black Planet was released in 1998 on Peter Wachas label Disko B .

Meanwhile there are several other releases from Denham on the labels KMS Records and Black Nation.
