Jazz Record (label)

Jazz Record was an Art Hodes jazz label that existed from 1946 to 1947 .

Art Hodes brought out the recordings, which were mostly made under his direction from 1940 to 1947, as part of his Jazz Record magazine. The last record came out in 1947. The rights were acquired in 1980 by George H. Buck for his Jazzology label .

Among the recordings are six piano solos by Hodes, recordings by Hodes with a quintet from 1940 (except Hodes with George Brunies trb, Rod Cless , cl, Joe Grauso dr), eight recordings with a sextet in 1946 (with Henry Clay Goodwin tr, George Lugg trb, Cecil Scott cl, Pops Foster b, Kaiser Marshall dr) and four trio recordings (with Pops Foster, Baby Dodds dr).

The label was one of the first to be founded by a jazz musician himself.
