Joachim Giermek

Joachim Giermek (* 2. April 1943 in Buffalo , USA as Thomas Anthony Giermek ) is a former Minister General of the Franciscans - Friars Minor .

He took his first vows on August 15, 1961, the perpetual vows three years later on August 15, 1964. He is a member of St. Anthony of Padua Province, USA. He was ordained a priest on December 23, 1969.

He was elected Minister General at the 197th Ordinary General Chapter from January 29 to February 25, 2001. He is the 118th successor of St. Francis in the leadership of the Order. Before that he was already active in the order's leadership as assistant general and vicar of the order.

The term of office of Fr. Joachim Giermek ended on May 26, 2007 with the election of Fr. Marco Tasca (Province of Padua, Italy) as the new Minister General.
