Jodhpur with strap attachment on the shaft (Grenson)

The Jodhpur boot (or Jodhpur boot ) is an over the ankle- high boot model with a flat heel , which has an adjustable strap that encompasses the shaft at ankle height and has no other decorations.

Historical

The origin of this boot model is not entirely clear. It is believed that British soldiers stationed in India invented this shoe because it was suitable for riding and was more airy than the boots previously used. According to other sources, this boot model is said to have been invented by the Maharajah of Jodhpur.

use

Together with special riding breeches ( jodhpurs ), this shoe model is a short riding boot . Thanks to the strap, the pants can be fixed so that they do not slip out of the shaft. However, the Jodhpur has also made many friends outside of equestrian sport, especially in the more expensive welted construction . It has been one of the classic men's shoe models for over fifty years and can be found in all collections of well-known suppliers of Goodyear welted footwear.

variants

There is the Jodhpur in the original design with the strap attachment in the bottom of the shoe as well as the simpler models in which the strap is sewn onto the side of the shaft. Shoe connoisseurs prefer the more elaborate (and more expensive) variant, riders the simpler variant, because the strap has to be replaced occasionally due to the friction on the stirrup. The illustration of the brown Jodhpurs shows the course of the straps of the simpler shaft cut. Ankle boots made of thicker leather are usually used for riding, which are less elegantly cut but more robust.
