Joe Celko

Joe Celko (born before 1965) is an American computer scientist. He is a relational database expert based in Austin , Texas.

Life

Celko was a member of the ANSI X3H2 Database Standards Committee and helped draft the SQL -89 and SQL-92 standards. He is the author of six books and over 700 articles on SQL and other database topics.

He is credited with coining the phrase lasagna code .

He is also the first to describe nested sets . This is a technique of how tree structures can be stored in databases in such a way that subtrees or the path to the root can be determined with linear effort instead of recursion.
