Johann Heinrich Kynast (or Kühnast , * in the 1720s in Leubus , Duchy of Wohlau ; † 1792 in Breslau ) was a German church painter who worked in Silesia . He dealt with oil and wall painting.

Kynast was a student of Christian Philipp Bentum in Leubus . His wife Hedwig Kynast, daughter of the sculptor Franz Joseph Mangoldt , was also a painter. The altar leaves of hll. Karl Borromäus and Johannes Nepomuk in the Breslauer Kreuzkirche were ascribed to their husband as youth works.

Before 1769, Kynast portrayed the Prussian budget minister of Silesia, Ernst Wilhelm von Schlabrendorf .

In 1757 Kynast was elected to the board of the Breslau painters' guild. He also held the post of Rector of the Jesuit Congregation for Mary at St. Martin's Church.

His sons Johann Carl Kynast and Christian Ferdinand Kynast as well as Johann Friedrich Schneider and Johann Joachim Simmerock were among his students.
