Johannikios Komnenos
Johannikios Komnenos ( Middle Greek Ιωαννίκιος Κομνηνός ; † after 1238) was heir to the throne and possibly briefly Emperor and Grand Comnene of Trebizond .
Life
Johannikios Komnenos was a younger brother (or a son) of John I , the third emperor of Trebizond, who had succeeded his brother-in-law Andronikos I to the throne in 1235 . When Johannes had a fatal accident while playing polo in 1238 , Johannikios was put in a monastery. Instead of him his brother (or uncle) Manuel I took over the rule. However, some sources suggest that Johannikios reigned at least briefly before he was deposed and sheared to be a monk .

Remarks
- ↑ The context of the text in Panaretos suggests that Johannikios was a brother of John I and Manuel I. However, "Johannikios" is apparently a diminutive of the first name Johannes, so that Emperor Johannes unusually would have had a younger brother of the same name. It can therefore be assumed that Johannikios was the emperor's young son.
