John D'Arcy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John D'Arcy († around 1864 ) was an Irish brewer and politician.

John D'Arcy was the owner of the Anchor Brewery , which had been acquired by his father John D'Arcy († 1825) in 1818. The brewery was founded in 1740 and over time it became the second largest in the city.

However, D'Arcy was also active politically. So he was councilor ( Alderman ) and held as such in 1852 the office of Lord Mayor of Dublin ( Lord Mayor of Dublin ). After his death, his son Matthew D'Arcy became the new owner of the brewery. Like his father, he was a respected member of the Dublin brewing community.
