Jolly cut

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The jolly cut is a type of tile cut . While the new edge is usually at right angles to the tile surface with the professional breaking or cutting of tiles, this angle is 45 degrees with the Jolly cut. It is a miter cut in which the tile is cut “jolly”.

If two tile edges cut to 45 degrees meet convexly , the glaze of both tiles can almost touch. This is often desired with colored glazes or effect glazes, especially when a directional pattern is present.

As a rule, the jolly cut is made using an electric tile cutting machine with a diamond saw blade.
