The Joprima cargo ship series is a dry cargo ship type from the Rostock shipyard "Neptun".

The ships

The series was manufactured from 1968/9 in five units for a Norwegian shipping company. The ships measured as full-deckers are primarily intended for the transport of general cargo and bulk goods, as well as especially timber loads.

The series included:

  • The first ship and namesake of the series was the Joprima with hull number 361, handed over on March 31, 1968. The Oslo- based Joprima was sold and renamed several times, most recently in 1987 as First Star and demolished in Calcutta in 1991 .
  • The Joruna was handed over in 1968 and has been operating under the name Dalia since 1990 . It broke in two on March 6, 1994 off Selata and sank.
  • The third ship was the Joselin, completed in 1969 . After being renamed several times , it has been in motion since 2003 under the name Mashta Azzar .
  • The fourth ship is also in motion. The Jotina , laid down as Sigyn and completed in 1969, has been under the name Al Naser since 2002 after several renaming .
  • The end of the series, which was completely delivered to Norway , was the Joulla , which was delivered on August 23, 1969 and which was last renamed A. Bedevi in 1995 and is still in service.

The newly developed single-deck ship type with a short forecastle and machine system located far aft is optimized for timber transport. The superstructures, which were also arranged far aft, were insulated as much as possible from engine noise. The 2942 kW 2-stroke diesel engines of the type MAN K6Z 57/80 A3 are MAN engines manufactured under license by the manufacturer VEB Maschinenbau Halberstadt. The main motor can be controlled directly from the bridge.

The three cargo holds without tween decks and a bulk cargo volume of 8587 m 3 and a ball room of 8122 m 3 were provided with movable herfts in rooms II and III in order to turn the ship into a five-hatch ship if necessary. The hatches are closed with folding hatch covers, which are designed to accommodate wooden deck loads. The after system Velle created loading gear consists of three 8-ton derricks , a 15-ton derrick, and a heavy lift for 50 tonnes. The winches are operated hydraulically.
