José Rafael Lantigua

José Rafael Lantigua (born September 17, 1949 in Santo Domingo ) is a Dominican journalist, writer, literary critic and politician.

Lantigua attended the Escuela Juan Crisóstomo Estrella and the Liceo Secundario Domingo Faustino Sarmiento in his hometown. From 1972 he studied at the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña in Santo Domingo educational science with a focus on literature as well as management in the areas of advertising, public relations, communication and personnel policy. He held managerial positions in banks and multinational companies for several years and was the founder and director of JRLantigua & Asociados, y Platinum Events Ltd. . He was also a co-producer of the Miguel Guerrero- directed television program Para Todos for several years .

For twenty years he was the director of the Biblioteca supplement published in the El Nuevo Diario , Ultima Hora and Listín Diario magazines. From 1997 to 2000 he was President of the Permanent Commission of the Feria del Libro and was the founder of the Feria Internacional del Libro in Santo Domingo, which he headed for twelve years. He was also President of the National Council for Culture and the National Commission at UNESCO and from 2004 to 2012 Minister for Culture of the Dominican Republic.

In 1976 he won the Premio Nacional de Ensayo on the 100th birthday of Juan Pablo Duarte , and in 1988 the Premio Nacional de Periodismo . In 1999 he was awarded the Caonabo de Oro for his services to the spread of Dominican literature .
