Jose ben Qisma

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rabbi Jose ben Qisma (also: ben Kisma ) was a Tannaite of the 3rd generation - historically even worse than the rest of the testimonies - who almost only came from the passage Abot VI.9 (he was not ready at any price in the world to live without learning the Torah) is known and verified.

He lived in the first and second centuries AD, survived the destruction of the temple in 70 and was still very old. He was held in high regard by the Romans; Roman officials were also present at his funeral and honored him.

Jose allegedly predicted the fire death of Chaninas ben Teradjon because the latter did not want to give up his public studies and so aroused displeasure among the Romans, who ultimately killed him for it.
