Josefina Benedetti

Josefina Benedetti (born September 17, 1953 in New Haven , Connecticut ) is an American- Venezuelan composer .

Benedetti studied piano in Caracas and London and then at the Instituto Universitario de Estudios Musicales (IUDEM) choral conducting (1991) and at the Conservatorio Juan José Landaeta composition (1994).

From 1991 to 1995 she was president of the Juventudes Musicales de Venezuela , from 1995 to 2000 of the Fundación Orquesta Filarmónica Nacional . In addition, she was Secretary General of the Consejo Venezolano de la Música at UNESCO , member of the board of the Sociedad Venezolana de Música Contemporánea and the Fundación Teatro Teresa Carreño as well as Director of Culture of the Universidad Central de Venezuela (2000-05).

Benedetti was awarded the Premio Nacional de Composición three times (1989, 1993 and 1998), the Premio Municipal de Música de la Ciudad de Caracas (1990) and the Premio de Composición Fundación José Antonio y Carmen Calcaño (1993).
