Joyce Gould, Baroness Gould of Potternewton

Joyce Brenda Gould, Baroness Gould of Potternewton (born October 29, 1932 ) is a British pharmacist, trade unionist and politician.

Life

The daughter of Sydney and Fanny Manson studied pharmacy at Bradford Technical College . Gould then worked in a pharmacy from 1952 to 1965. During this time she also worked for Pioneer Women . From 1966 to 1969 she was an office worker. For the Labor Party she worked from 1969 at the regional level, from 1975 at the national level and was from 1975 to 1993 in leadership positions in the party's women's association. From 1997 to 1998 she was a member of the Jenkins Commission to reform the UK electoral system.

As a member of the Transport and General Workers' Union (TGWU) and the General Municipal Boilermakers and Allied Trades Union (GMB), she was a committee member of the Campaign Against Racial Discrimination from 1965 to 1975 and a member of the management of the Leeds Grand Theater and Opera from 1968 to 1972 House . In 1979 she became a member of the Joint Committee Against Racism and worked from 1979 to 1975 for the Yorkshire National Council for Civil Liberties and from 1975 to 1985 for the National Joint Committee of Working Women .

From 1970 to 1975 she was a committee member of the Women's National Commission and from 1990 to 1994 of the Commission on Conduct of Referendums . Furthermore she works u. a. with on the Department of Employment Women's Advisory Committee and the Independent Commission on Electoral System and the Home Office Committee on Electoral Matters .

Current activities

On October 6, 1993, she was raised to Life Peeress as Baroness Gould of Potternewton , of Leeds in the County of West Yorkshire, and has been a member of the House of Lords ever since .

She is a member of the Fawcett Society and the Howard League , a committee member of the Constitution Unit, and a vice-chairman of the Hansard Society . She is also Director of the Family Planning Association , President of the HS Chapman Society, and Vice President of the Electoral Reform Society .

Gould is chairman and trustee of the Mary MacArthur Holiday Trust and director and trustee of the Yigol Allon Trust . She is also a member of the Industry and Parliament Trust . She is the patron of the Brighton Women's Center and the Forward - Foundation for Women's Health Research & Development . Since 2003 she has been on the Board of Directors of the Independent Advisory Group on Sexual Health .

In 2007, she was appointed to the Advisory Board of the Women's National Commission shortly after assuming the chairmanship of Margaret Prosser, Baroness Prosser , who stepped down to become vice-chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission . In March 2008 she became a member of the board.

Awards

In 1997 she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Bradford and in 2006 an honorary membership of the Royal College of Family Planning and Reproductive Health .

Personal

In 1952 she married Kevin Gould. You have a daughter and are now divorced.
