Juan Ortiz de Zárate (composer)

Juan Ortiz de Zárate is an Argentine composer.

Zárate attended the La Lucila Conservatory and studied at the Universidad Católica Argentina . He continued his training in France at the IRCAM and in Germany at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart , where he was a student of Helmut Lachenmann . He wrote his dissertation at the University of Edinburgh . A scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service made it possible to attend the Darmstadt summer courses between 1991 and 1994 .

His compositions have been performed at international competitions such as the Concurso Internacional de Composición del SODRE in Uruguay and the Concurso Internacional de Composición Rodolfo Halfter in Mexico. a. awarded with prizes from SADAIC and the Fondo Nacional de las Artes , the Premio Municipal and the Premio Regional-Secretaría de Cultura de la Nación . He teaches composition at the Universidad Católica Argentina and the Universidad Maimónides . He published articles in specialist journals and a. about his teacher Lachenmann and about Brian Ferneyhough .
